Installing and Configuring TFS Features
TFS installation requires careful planning and research. The main reason for careful planning is wide array of features available as part of TFS. Some of these features you can enable during installation process itself and other you can configure after your installed TFS. TFSinstallation disk allows you to run setup.exe file as x86 or 32-bit version or x64 or 64-bit version. Choose the one you need for your own environment. There are four main features or components available to you during installation process which you may decide to install or not install. They are:
- Team Foundation Server feature contains all of the required component for setting up a brand new instance of TFS. You can also use it in order to add brand new application tier to already installed TFS.
- Extensions for SharePoint Products and Technologies feature is designed to allow you utilize remote SharePoint server with TFS. This component needs to be installed and configured on SharePoint Server.
- TFS Proxy feature allows you to utilize proxy server for distributed teams
- TFS Build Service feature is designed to allow your TFS server to host Team Foundation Build controller and add one or several TFS Build Agents.
If some of these components were missing from the initial installation, you can re-run setup.exe file and add additional features as needed. TFSinstallation process will prompt you with TFS Configuration Tool after installation process is complete. This configuration tool is also available from Start -> Programs -> TFS-> TFS Console menu option. There are several items you can configure using this tool.
